"Montreville W. Black was b. 22 Mar 1836 in Tennessee,
the second son of Patrick and Emily (Bridges) Black. His
older grandchildren can remember his telling of the trip
from Tennessee to Buncombe Co. as a young boy."
"Montreville enlisted in Company H, 29th Regiment,
North Carolina troops, CSA in August 1861."
"Like his father Patrick, we can find no records indicating
that Montreville owned property. He was a farmer and
there are several documents in the Buncombe County
Deeds indicating he borrowed money against stock and
crops planted on land belonging to others. His first wife,
Susan, died at some point after the 1870 census and
before his marriage to Mary "Polly" Edwards/Edmonds in
