Notes: In 1830, Julia Stiles Hibbard was a widow. The 1830 census Macon County, pp. 3-4, lists "Jahaly
Hobbards" as head of household: 1 male 10-14, 1 male 15-19, 1 female 10-14, 1 female 15-19, and 1
female 40-49. Nearby (pp. 1-2), resided Charles Stiles, age 30-39 and (pp.5-6) John Stiles, age 60-69.

The spelling of this surname varies widely within the same family: Hibbard, Hibbards, Hebbards, Hibbert,
Hibberd, etc. We've chosen the version used on John's military service record, for consistency throughout
these pages.

The spelling of Julia Stiles Hibbard's given name, age, etc. varied through the census lists:
1850 (Tennessee Valley, Macon Co): "Jaila Hibbards", born in "Lincolnshire", age 62;
1860 (Tennessee Valley, Macon Co): "Jaliah Hibbards", born in "Lincoln", age 80;
1870 (Cowee, Macon Co): "Jalah Hibbard", age 92;
1880 (Cowee, Macon Co): "Julia Hibbard", age 102.
