Julia Stiles
1778      - after 1879
Lincoln Co NC        Macon Co NC
Note: The spelling of Julia Stiles Hibbard's name, age, etc. varied through the census lists:
1850 (Tennessee Valley, Macon Co): "Jaila Hibbards", born in "Lincolnshire", age 62;
1860 (Tennessee Valley, Macon Co): "Jaliah Hibbards", born in "Lincoln", age 80;
1870 (Cowee, Macon Co): "Jalah Hibbard", age 92;
1880 (Cowee, Macon Co): "Julia Hibbard", age 102.

As 1860 census indicates that she could not read or write, presumably she was at the mercy of
the census takers for the spelling of her name.
According to this history of Cullowhee Baptist Church, Julia "Jaley" Stiles Hibbard was a founding member of Unity Baptist
Church, at Webster, NC, in 1821. Later the church moved to Cullowhee and was renamed.

Then "Jaly Hibberts" was among the charter members at the founding of Cowee Baptist Church, in 1828.

Cowee Baptist Church - Early History

In 1850, 1860, and 1870, Julia resided with Reuben Beasley and her daughter Jane HIbbard Beasley, and their children. (In
1850, the family includes Eleanor Childers, age 3. Is this child the daughter of Jane's sister Sarah Hibbard Childers, then
deceased?)

In 1880, Julia, 102, and daughter Jane Hibbard Beasley, 65, a widow also, are the sole remaining members of the
household.
