Donald W. Thoma, Sr

Marion - Donald W. Don Thoma Sr., formerly of New Jersey, died Thursday, December 25, 2008.

Mr. Thoma was a resident of Glenwood for 32 years and a former member of the Central Baptist Church in
Woodbury, N.J. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired businessman and farmer. For 60 years, he
was a member of Florance Lodge #87 AF & AM and a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory. For 62 years he
was a member of the Friendship Fire Co., where he served as Lieutenant, Captain and Battalion Chief. He was a
member of the N.J. State Fireman's Assoc. and also served as City Fire Marshal for a number of years. After
moving to Glenwood he became a member of the fire department.

His wife of 52 years, the late Hilda M. Burnette Thoma died in 1995.

Surviving are his daughter, Sandra G. Thoma; three sons, Donald W. Thoma Jr., Douglas R. Thoma, and Eben D.
Thoma; grandchildren, Tracey L. York, Sarah C. Vess, Jacob A. and Samuel L. Thoma, Summer I. Thoma; two
great-grandchildren, Colin M. Vess and Ava V. Vess; one brother, Ferd G. Thoma of Wenonah, N.J.
The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2008, in Piney Mountain Cemetery,
Weaverville, with the Rev. Jim Brewer officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Burnette Cemetery Fund, 72 Murphy Hill Rd., Weaverville, NC 28787.
West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville is in charge of arrangements.
